A Day Trip To Arundel, Sussex

Potentially one of the prettiest places in England, Arundel is a charming and historic town in West Sussex. It's well known for its impressive castle that attracts thousands of visitors each year, and has a wide array of beautiful independent shops and small cafes. The River Arun runs straight through the town and into the nearby countryside, making it a great area for an afternoon stroll as well.

How to get to Arundel:
By Train: If you're visiting from London then getting to Arundel by train is the easiest option. Trains depart every half an hour from London Victoria and the journey that takes 1 hour and 20 minutes.

By Car: If you live in Sussex or a neighbouring county then driving is also a good option. Arundel is along the A27 so it's easily accessible from areas such as Brighton, Worthing or Chichester. There are several car parks in Arundel so parking shouldn't be a problem either.

Things to do:
Arundel Castle & Gardens: Without a doubt the main attraction in Arundel is its fairytale castle. It towers over the town, and is easily one of the most impressive castles in England. The gardens are beautiful, especially in spring when the tulips are in bloom.

If you're visiting Arundel for the day, dedicate most of your time to explore the castle and the gardens. If you want to pop out mid-way through to have lunch in the town, the staff that work there will be happy to give you a stamp allowing you to re-enter.

Tickets vary in price depending on how much of the castle and grounds that you wish to see. Prices start from £13. However, if budgets allow I would recommend at least the Silver ticket at £15 as that allows entry into the Castle Keep. This is the place to get the best views of the Castle Courtyard!

Other things to do:
As well as the castle, there's also the beautiful Arundel Cathedral. In addition, if you fancy spending a bit of time wandering the shops, the high street and the nearby side streets are full of wonderful antique shops and independent cafes, tearooms and home-ware shops.

Got a sweet tooth? Definitely head to 'The Ice Cream And Candy Parlour'. Granted it's not the most uniquely named, but the desserts here are heavenly. They do the most amazing American style pancakes covered in nutella and ice cream!
